====== Viewing Real-Time EVE Logs with Edge-View ======

The Zededa UI shows logs, but they are **batched and delayed (~15 min)**. To see
logs **live**, pull them straight from the edge node with Edge-View. It works
**remotely** over a secure connection — no SSH and no need to be on the device's
network.

===== Before You Start =====

  * Enable a session in the UI: **Edge Nodes → //(your edge node)// → Remote Access → Enable session**.
  * Enabling gives you a **run script** with the token already embedded, e.g.
    ''run.CHENNAI-SERVER.edgeview.sh''. Download it and ''chmod +x'' it.

===== Basic Usage =====

<code bash>
./run.CHENNAI-SERVER.edgeview.sh [options] <query>
</code>

For logs, the query is ''log/<word>'' — it searches the logs for ''<word>''.

===== Log Examples =====

^ Command ^ What it does ^
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/<match></code> | Only lines containing "<match>" |

^ Command ^ What it does (sample matches)^
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/guest</code> | Container / app console + boot logs (the "inside the container" view) |
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/nginx</code> | Only lines containing "nginx" |
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/error</code> | Only lines containing "error" |
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/guest -type app</code> | Force the **application** log stream (container stdout) |
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/guest -type dev</code> | EVE **system** log stream (app start/stop/download lifecycle) |
| <code bash>./run...edgeview.sh -inst 1 app/<app-name></code> | Status/info for an app instance |

===== Useful Options =====

^ Option ^ What it does ^ Example ^
| ''-inst 1'' | Pick the connection slot. **Required** when it says "multi-instance mode". | ''-inst 1'' |
| ''-line N'' | Return more lines (default is small). | ''-line 300'' |
| ''-time A-B'' | Limit to a time window. | ''-time 0-0.5'' (last half hour) |
| ''-type app⎮dev'' | Choose container logs (''app'') vs EVE system logs (''dev''). | ''-type app'' |
| ''-json'' | Output as JSON. | ''-json'' |

===== Tips =====

  * Always add **''-inst 1''** if it prints //"multi-instance mode"//.
  * If you get only a few boot lines, raise **''-line''** and widen **''-time''**.
  * ''log/guest'' = the container's own output (nginx, your startup script).
    ''log/<dev/system word>'' with ''-type dev'' = EVE's lifecycle logs.

===== Quick Recipe: Watch a Container Boot =====

<code bash>
# everything the container printed, recent, targeted
./run.<device>.<id>.edgeview.sh -inst 1 log/guest -type app -line 300
</code>
