Images
An Image is a reference to a VM disk image or container image stored in a Datastore. Images are versioned, reusable objects that are referenced by App Bundles at deployment time. ZEDEDA Cloud does not store the image binary itself; it stores the metadata (location, format, hash) and instructs EVE-OS to fetch the image from the Datastore when needed.
What It Is
- Supported formats: qcow2, raw, vmdk (for VMs); OCI container images (for containers)
- An image record contains: datastore reference, relative path within the datastore, format, and expected SHA256 hash
- Images are versioned and can be reused across multiple App Bundle definitions
- Once downloaded to a node, images are cached in the EVE-OS local volume pool
Flow: ZEDUI to API to Edge Node
ZEDUI
- Navigate to Objects > Images
- Click Add Image
- Select the Datastore that holds the image file
- Enter the image relative URL (path within the datastore)
- Select the image format (qcow2, raw, vmdk, OCI)
- Enter the SHA256 hash for integrity verification
- Click Save
Terraform

image_type = "IMAGE_TYPE_EVE"

image_format = "QCOW2"
image_sha256 = "abc123..."
project_id = zedcloud_project.workshop.id
}
API

What Happens on the Edge Node
- When an App Instance referencing this image is deployed to the node, the controller sends a download instruction to EVE-OS
- EVE-OS authenticates to the Datastore and downloads the image using the relative URL
- The downloaded image is verified against the expected SHA256 hash; a mismatch aborts the download
- The image is stored in the EVE-OS local volume pool (typically on the data partition of the node)
- Subsequent app instances on the same node referencing the same image reuse the cached copy
